Performance Standards
InfoComm performance standards are fundamental design criteria and engineering principles that are used as the basis to create quality audiovisual systems. InfoComm’s performance standards program is designed to:
- Provide industry output standards that audiovisual professionals can build their systems to meet
- Provide customers with clear and reliable industry standards
The Design and Coordination Components Performance Standard public review and comment period ended Monday, December 14, 2009. Thank you for your comments. All comments will be addressed and made available per ANSI guidelines.
Standards Developing Organization (SDO)
InfoComm International is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developing Organization (SDO). Accreditation by ANSI signifies that the procedures used by the standards body in connection with the development of American National Standards meet the Institute’s essential requirements for openness, balance, consensus and due process.
Performance Standards Committee
The ANSI standards development process involves groups that work cooperatively to develop voluntary national consensus standards. InfoComm’s Board of Directors established a Standards Committee in 2006 to start working on performance standards. It is currently chaired by Richard Derbyshire of Shen Milsom & Wilke. There are now more than 200 volunteers involved in task forces discussing various standards.
Performance Standards Initiatives
There are four new performance standards in different stages of development:
- Audiovisual Systems Design and Coordination Components— in draft review and comment phase until December 14, 2009.
- Audiovisual Systems Power Management — in working draft phase
- Projected Image Standard — in working draft phase
- Videoconference Lighting — in working draft phase in conjunction with the Illuminating Engineering Society

Audio Coverage Uniformity in Enclosed Listener Areas (ACU) Available Now!
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and InfoComm International Board of Directors approved the release of the Association’s first performance standard, Audio Coverage Uniformity in Enclosed Listener Areas.
How does the ACU standard help you?
One of the fundamental goals of sound system performance for both speech reinforcement and program audio is the delivery of consistent coverage in the listening area. A well-executed audio system design is one that allows all listeners to hear the system at approximately the same sound pressure level throughout the desired frequency spectrum range, no matter where positioned in the designated listening area. The ACU standard provides a procedure to measure this spatial coverage, and criteria for use in the design and commissioning of audio systems.
